Term and Qualifications
Term of Program:
The term or length of apprenticeship is established
by industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
Our apprenticeship program term is 4 years and
consists of 8,000 hours of continuous employment
(on-the-job-training) and 720 hours of related
classroom instruction. These two components are
required for certification as an apprentice.
Program Qualifications:
As a requirement of the State of Florida, Department
of Education and the IEC, South Florida Chapter,
employers desiring to enroll apprentices into our
program must first become Participating Employers in
our apprenticeship program. Participating Employers
must be licensed electrical contractors who may or
may not be members of the IEC, South Florida Chapter
and must execute and comply with the State of
Florida Participating Employer Agreement.
In addition to the above requirements, qualified
applicants (apprentice candidates) must meet the
following minimum qualifications before applying
into our program:
1. Be at least 18 years of age;
2. Be physically capable of performing the work of
the trade;
3. Possess a High School Diploma or General
Education Diploma (GED);
4. Read, write and understand the English language;
and
5. Meet Miami Dade College admission qualifications.
Apprenticeship
training is open to all qualified applicants
regardless of sex, race, color, national or ethnic
origin, physical disability or religion.
